Privacy Policy
AniMuse is built to respect your privacy. It has no account system of its own, no servers, no ads, and no tracking. This page explains exactly what data the app touches and where it stays.
Last updated: June 23, 2026
The short version
We don't collect your personal data. AniMuse has no backend of its own — your anime and manga data comes from AniList over its official API, and everything AniMuse learns about your taste is stored locally on your device. We can't see your library, your activity, or your settings, because none of it is sent to us.
Who we are
AniMuse ("the app," "we," "us") is an iOS app that gives personalized anime and manga recommendations on top of your AniList account. You can reach us any time at support@animuse.app.
Information you provide
- AniList sign-in. Connecting AniList is optional and uses AniList's official OAuth flow. AniMuse never sees your AniList password. The resulting access token is stored securely in the iOS Keychain on your device and is used only to read and update your lists, favorites, and profile on AniList.
- Your taste preferences. Ratings, favorites, taste-profile overrides (Boost / Reduce / Block / Ignore), hidden shows, and app settings are saved locally on your device. They are used to generate your recommendations and verdicts and are not transmitted to us.
Information collected automatically
None by us. AniMuse contains no analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking SDKs, and does not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA) or App Tracking Transparency.
- Crash & performance diagnostics. AniMuse uses Apple's on-device MetricKit to record crash, hang, and resource-exception reports. These reports are stored only on your device (you can view them in the app's Diagnostics screen) and are never uploaded to us. Apple may separately provide developers with aggregated, anonymized crash statistics if you have opted into sharing analytics with Apple in iOS Settings — that sharing is controlled by Apple, not AniMuse.
How your data is used
- To build your personalized For You feed, Surprise Me picks, and taste verdicts.
- To read and update your AniList lists and favorites when you ask the app to.
- To generate review summaries and verdict explanations using an on-device Apple Foundation Models AI. Your library is processed locally on your device and is not sent to us or to any third-party AI service.
- To schedule local episode-airing notifications you opt into. These are scheduled on your device; we are not involved.
Third-party services
AniMuse talks to a few third-party services to function. When it does, it sends only what's needed to fulfill your request, and no personal profile of you:
- AniList — the source of anime/manga data and the destination for any list changes you make. Your use of AniList is governed by AniList's own terms and privacy policy.
- MyAnimeList / Jikan — queried by title to gather public community review text that the app summarizes. No personal information is sent.
- Apple — AniMuse Pro is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase. Apple processes the transaction and your payment; AniMuse never receives your payment details. Subscription handling is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
Data storage and retention
Your taste data, settings, caches, scheduled notifications, and diagnostic reports live in the app's storage on your device. Because there is no AniMuse server, we hold none of it. Removing it is entirely in your control (see below).
Your choices and controls
- Disconnect AniList. Sign out from the Me tab to remove the stored access token from your device. AniMuse will no longer read or update your lists.
- Adult content. Adult content is hidden by default. You can enable it in Settings, with a nested option to keep adult titles you add marked private on AniList.
- Notifications. Manage or disable episode notifications in the app's Airing Notifications settings, and in the iOS Settings app under AniMuse.
- Delete your data. Deleting the app removes all locally stored AniMuse data from your device. To manage or delete your AniList account itself, use anilist.co.
Children's privacy
AniMuse is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Adult content is disabled by default.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, we'll update this page and revise the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes will be reflected in an app update.
